What We're Looking For
This position specifically supports the mission of the university through providing guidance and counseling to prospective students to help achieve the freshman strategic enrollment management goals for each incoming class and term. The Admissions Specialist will counsel prospective students to gain application numbers through the enrollment funnel from students who are an academic, social, and financial fit for Baylor.
A bachelor's degree and less than one year of relevant work experience are required. A master's degree and one year of relevant work experience are preferred.
Additional education or experience will be considered in lieu of one another.
A valid US Driver License with a clear driving record of at least two years is required.
Must be able to travel outside of the state of Texas.
This role is temporary in nature.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
- Assist territory managers in supporting their enrollment goals as assigned by offering recruitment and admissions support.
- Be an expert on all admissions policies and procedures; actively maintain a wealth of information about Baylor's academic/social/spiritual opportunities to personally and persuasively recruit students and tailor messaging to fit the audience.
- Assist in planning and hosting small group events and recruitment and yield events for prospective students.
- Manage daily correspondence from prospective students using a wide variety of communication channels.
- Manage all modes of in-bound communication as primary responsibility.
- Counsel students on the nuances of the admissions process, especially regarding test-optional admissions.
- Use persuasive techniques to encourage prospective students to act, such as visiting campus, completing their application, or selecting Baylor University as their final college choice.
- Qualify prospective student leads and maintain accurate records of interactions in Slate throughout the enrollment funnel.
- Meet with prospective students individually for office visits or in groups while traveling to assist territory managers, or through a virtual platform to recruit throughout the enrollment process.
- Leverage advanced Slate query techniques to identify application files to complete.
- Review and evaluate files to assist with completion steps on a case-by-case basis and to impact completion rates.
- Utilize tools and resources in Slate to strategically personalize recruitment efforts to meet the individual needs of prospective students.
- Counsel students regarding final college decision to enroll at Baylor.
- Utilize Slate Inbox as primary focus to ensure prospective students receive timely and accurate information.
- Develop and maintain beginning-level financial aid knowledge, proficiently counseling students on common financial aid practices and Baylor-specific processes.
- Develop a strategy to work with students throughout the financial aid process.
- Review students and make scholarship recommendations while counseling students on merit-based scholarship eligibility, scholarship program opportunities, scholarship appeals, and outside funding opportunities.
- Determine techniques to highlight the value of a Baylor education with prospective families while advocating and supporting their unique situation.
- Properly train and complete increased conversations around the value and return on investment of higher education and financial literacy around how to finance a Baylor education.
- Professional sales training required.
- Regularly cross-train with financial aid including the use of financial aid operating systems.
- Assist with high-impact recruitment initiatives in a highly competitive landscape.
- Assist with coordinating, managing & hosting on-campus and off-campus recruitment events.
- Offer virtual recruitment event opportunities to connect with prospective students and families throughout the enrollment process.
- Support affinity group recruitment efforts for some of Baylor's unique programs such as Aviation Sciences, Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC, etc.
- Meet with prospective students individually or in groups during office visits, or through a virtual platform to recruit throughout the enrollment process.
- Offer compelling admissions counseling presentations for students and families during their visit to campus.
- Provide a top-notch service to prospective students and families equivalent of the Baylor brand and market position.
- Perform all duties as assigned to meet and exceed the customer service standards of Enrollment Management at Baylor University including covering a territory if the need arises.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission.
- Ability to comply with University policies.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
