Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs (AVPSA) assists in overseeing the operation of the Division of Student Affairs, and provides leadership for the development of plans and procedures for accomplishing the Division's goals. The AVPSA manages program assessment and planning in the Division of Student Affairs, including strategic planning, budget, human resources, departmental program review, and activities of the Division Assessment Team. The AVPSA provides leadership for Enrollment operations and initiatives designed to ensure strong recruitment, retention and completion rates for our students. Line managerial responsibilities include the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Services, the Office of Student Financial Aid, Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound, Learning Communities, and division budget and human resources.
The successful candidate must possess a bachelors degree with a minimum of ten years experience; or a masters degree with a minimum of eight years of experience; or a Ph.D. or other doctoral/professional degree with a minimum of six years of relevant experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and include higher education with progressive leadership responsibilities in enrollment services and/or student programs. A doctorate is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include: a demonstrated commitment to student success; and experience which demonstrates: knowledge of student recruitment, enrollment and financial aid strategies; knowledge of strategic planning and implementation of operational metrics; knowledge of budget and human resources administration; ability to understand and analyze complex situations and effectively develop and communicate action plans; ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities and coordinate complex administrative operations; strong writing skills needed in preparing and interpreting policy statements; a background in research-assessment necessary to supervise assessment team; familiarity with current trends in higher education, including best practices; and thorough knowledge of departmental areas within the Division of Student Affairs.
