Job Description
The Senior Director of Student Services and Enrollment is based in the Office of Student Affairs at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry. This position oversees the admissions process, provides student support services, coordinates event, manages financial activities, and handles human resource management. This role ensures the efficient operation of admissions and student affairs while supporting students throughout their academic journey. The Senior Director develops and implements strategies to attract a diverse pool of applicants, provide guidance on academic policies, plan and execute key student orientation and events, manage budgets and scholarships, and oversee staff performance.


Responsibilities
  1. Serves as primary resource for students regarding academic policies, curriculum requirements, and available support services.
  2. Offers guidance to students experiencing academic difficulties or needing degree plan revisions; works closely with faculty advisors to develop support plans for at-risk students.
  3. Develops and implements recruitment strategies to attract a diverse and talented pool of applicants; represents the College at recruitment events and build relationships with feeder schools.
  4. Oversees the application process from submission to decision; ensures all applications are reviewed timely and applicants receive prompt communication.
  5. Coordinates the interview process, including scheduling, communication with candidates, and training interviewers; develops criteria for selecting candidates to ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation.
  6. Oversees the processing of licensure and certification applications for students
  7. Plans and executes comprehensive orientation programs for students.
  8. Organizes graduation ceremonies, special events, and related events throughout the academic year.
  9. Handles recruiting, hiring, training, development, and performance evaluations for direct reports.
  10. Manages purchasing activities including budget planning and monitors expenses.
  11. Designs and executes a system of internal controls to ensure operational efficiency, asset safeguarding, reliable financial information, and compliance with laws and regulations.
  12. Oversees major scholarship and student affairs budget accounts in consultation with the Business and Finance Office; monitors account balances, approves expenditures, and ensures accurate financial reporting.
  13. Provides ongoing training opportunities for staff.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years of related experience; OR Master's Degree and five (5) years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Skills in mentoring/advising students, and proven ability in exhibiting strong interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills including database management and word processing and webpage maintenance.
  • Knowledge of academic counseling procedures and a basic understanding of distance education concepts and technologies.
  • Experience in event planning in higher education.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekend, evening hours, and travel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to provide direct experience to student information systems and online processing of student materials.
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact with a broad range of constituents including students, staff, faculty, and the local community.
  • Personnel management skills.
  • Knowledge of and direct experience in the service areas in Enrollment Management.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
